The difference between Black Tea VS Green Tea

The difference between black tea vs green tea involves the process in which the way the leaves are fermented.

Both black and green teas are made from the same plant BUT black tea has gone through an oxidation process called fermentation.

Both teas are healthy for your diet, but they offer slightly different health benefits due to the variation in their nutrient content.

Both black tea and green tea come from the same plant, Camellia Sinensis.  The difference between black tea vs green tea is that black tea leaves undergo a crushing and fermenting process. As a result the leaves darken and develop a stronger flavor and aroma.

Green tea leaves are not fermented but rather steamed and withered. This process halts oxidation so the leaves retain their color and delicate, fresh flavor.

Both teas from the camellia plant are rich in polyphenols, which are a type of antioxidant. Scavenging for free radicals in the body and detoxifying them, these nutrients are an excellent source of antioxidant power containing 8-10 times the polyphenols that are found in fruits and vegetables.

The difference between black tea vs green tea as far as caffeine content is concerned, would be that typically green tea has less caffeine than black tea BUT this is not always the case. Depending on the plant processing, and brewing methods,  caffeine content may vary. According to the Mayo clinic, green tea’s caffeine content ranges from 24-40 mg per cup and black tea ranges from 14-61 mg per cup.
